Boring stuff

When we get into a project we geek out over it. Our meetings practically spark with excess energy because we love doing this so much. It’s not a normal 40 hour work week for us, it’s not even a hobby, it’s more than that. It’s an addiction.

Sometimes I’ll look down at the clock to discover I have been at it for eight hours! If you were to ask my closest friends, they’d tell you I can’t make it more than three without food. Food means nothing when I am coding, almost as though I absorb energy from my work, instead of the other way around. Not that I don’t crash at the end of those eight solid hours, which usually lands around 4am, but it’s into a sweet satisfied sleep that I slip.

Surprisingly, I recently discovered that the same addictive passion fills me even when the things I am doing would be boring under any other circumstances. For example, I did my personal taxes about two weeks ago, and it hurt. I didn’t enjoy it one bit, I think it left a bruise. Shortly after, I had to sit down and figure out how Inspyre is going to pay taxes. This time it wasn’t boring. It was instead a nearly impossible puzzle to be solved. I solved it, then showed off my solution to Mike and Ryan like a proud first grade student with a finger painting made of chocolate pudding. Here’s to loving what you do and doing what you love.
