Web > 2.0

During a conversation with Mike and Ryan the other day about Google’s new addition of a Powerpoint like presentation web app to their online office suite, the topic of “web 3.0″ came up. I am interested in this because I have heard some talk about web “versions” greater than 2.0 in meetings around the RAD Lab here at UC Berkeley. I was not surprised to find that Wikipedia has a nontrivial entry on web 3.0. While I think that the definition of web 3.0 is ultimately going to be vague and hand wavy… I guess for now I’m going to go with defining 3.0 as a move to a portable internet, i.e. web 2.0 + cellphones = web 3.0. The iphone is a member of the first graduating class of web 3.0, the rumored gphone will probably join the 3.0 family as well.
